Alexander Hamilton, by Richard Brookhiser
|
Alexander Hamilton, American, by Richard Brookhiser. This flowing, readable and entertaining work fills a huge gap in modern biography. Perhaps because of his strong conservative ideals Hamilton has been snubbed by recent scholars. Even so, Hamilton was one of the most eminent of our founding fathers. He had great influence on how our government was founded and formed. He also lead an adventurous life, rising up from humble beginnings in the West-Indies and working his way up to become Secretary of the Treasury of the US at the young age of 32. He served as an aide to General Washington during the revolution. His end was no less exciting than his life, he was killed in a duel with one of the most infamous figures in American history, Aaron Burr. This book is as much a moral tale as it is History. Richard Brookhiser is a noted scholar and an editor for the National Review.
