Pick of the Week: Infectious Greed: How Deceit and Risk Corrupted the Financial Markets, by Frank Partnoy. This is a history of derivatives through the 1990s. It chronicles and analyzes the events that led up to the debacles at Enron and Global Crossing. Partnoy believes that out of control traders and company officers brought huge losses to the market and to naive investors. Excellent, informative, even exciting reading for anyone interested in the financial markets, especially derivatives.
