Mobocracy: How the Media's Obsession with Polling Twists the News, Alters Elections, and Undermines Democracy, by Matthew Robinson. Polls can be manipulated and in turn can be used to manipulate. Mr. Robinson illustrates the underhandedness of the media's use of polls. He shows how reliance on surreptitious techniques such as slanted wording makes a big difference in their outcome. Perhaps the dirtiest secret of polling is that most people polled do not know enough about a topic to even give an informed response, what is more many do not even care about the issues upon which they are being queried. This is a fascinating and informative work.
