As a book publisher and concerned American, I watched in utter disbelief as former United States Congressman Tony Coelho appeared on a talk show last week and stated that perjury from this president of the United States was perfectly ignorable...after all, he continued, the American people have no interest in hearing more about possible "indiscretions" (FBI-gate, China-gate, Missile-gate, etc.) committed by this president. Why, I wondered? And then it hit me-America is beyond reform. We published a book on the subject, former Republican National Committee member Gordon K. Durnil's "Is America Beyond Reform?". When we brought that book out, I had a far different answer to that question than I do today. What changed my mind? What I believe to be Bill Clinton's legacy. Oh, at first, after interviewing Dolly Kyle Browning about publishing her book, I thought his legacy would be of a wife-cheating philanderer. In retrospect, Dolly Kyle's book was tame compared to this Monica Lewinsky mess.
But now, after watching Democrats like Tony Coelho, I think I've finally got it-the Clinton legacy. This man has pitted us against one another...he's made the poor hate the rich, Democrats hate Republicans, blacks hate whites, environmentalists hate their employers, non-smokers hate smokers-the list is unending...he has ripped from us our civility. So why do the polls show that the majority of Americans side with Democrat activist Tony Coelho? Because Americans, thanks to Bill Clinton, have crossed a very dangerous line. If you're a baby-boomer, stock market profits, big homes and fast cars matter more than what is right, both in the Constitution and the laws under which we once lived. If you're in Clinton's designated and perpetuated poor contingent (try going to a private school in Washington, D.C. if you're poor and black-he and his millionaire Hollywood cronies won't let you), it's welfare, housing, and "the children" that have replaced decency, love of country, respect of one another, love of God and responsibility to our families. This president has created and initiated a "crisis" in every corner of our lives...right down to the foundation of our core beliefs. And as it did centuries ago in Rome, the ball is now rolling...America is on its slide-America is beyond reform-we'll never get back what we once had. And on who's watch is the fiddle playing? Thank you Bill Clinton. Eric G. Bollinger
