The Oregon Trail (pb) by Francis Parkman details the famous historians trip from New England to Wyoming and back during the rugged pioneer days.
Though much maligned in recent years for leading the "vicious, thoughtless, cruel and unjust" Europeans to the pristine western hemisphere in 1492, Columbus was a man of vision and fortitude. It was his force of character that opened a new world for discovery and opened men's minds to new ideas and new challenges.

Admiral of the Ocean Sea: A Life of Christopher Columbus (pb) , by Samuel Eliot Morrison details all we know of the life of this great man, from his origins in Genoa to his four fantastic voyages to the new world.
