Meggie Brooks
By Daphne Woods
"Meggie Brooks", by Daphne Woods is a coming-of-age novel set in a small rural township in New Jersey. Meggie's childhood is idyllic, living in the country. But soon Meggie is confronted with the school system and is forced to deal with political correctness.
When speaking her mind on global warming at school, she deals with the stifling attitude of the bureaucratic machine. Though it takes years, the heroic girl learns first to cope with and then to overcome the politically correct attitudes which surround her.
Her high school experiences compell Meggie to embrace a role as a defender of religious freedom and free speech.
This is a great novel for teens and adults alike living in a society where religion and thoughtful conservatism are repressed by the government and society at large.
