America's Galactic Foreign Legion: Book 1: Feeling Lucky
By Walter Knight
The 14 book science fiction series by Walter Knight called "America's Galactic Foreign Legion" depicts a strong America taking humanity and American culture across the galaxy. In the process of this advancement they are forced to battle spider like aliens.
But America's real weapon is not its military might but the rot and decay it introduces in the form of culture, gambling, drugs, beer, TV, sex (yuk), football, Nike, Starbucks, the Mafia, skateboards, democracy, and freedom. It is culture that wins the war.
Mr. Knight employs humor, science fiction, and aliens to poke fun at liberals and current events. The main character, Joey R. Czerinski, is a compulsive gambler who is tricked into joining future America's Foreign Legion to pay off debts. Although Czerinski and his legionnaires are very shady characters, they mature with responsibility and combat.
Culture clash issues on the planet colony America shares with aliens come to a head when alien shoppers riot on Black Friday in front of Walmart. It's a proud victory for America. The desperate aliens try to pass anti-American laws, but 'resistance is futile.'
Lots of fun, adventure, and best of all a nice tweak of the collective liberal nose.
