One of the great economic lights of the 20th Century was Milton Friedman. He wrote several popular books on economics and the connection between choice and freedom in life. He even made a PBS series on the subject called "Free to Choose". Having been influenced by the great political economists of the past, from Locke and Smith through von Heyek and von Mises, he left his own indelible imprint on the modern age of capitalism. He was one of the first to popularize the idea of vouchers in education and his ideas about monetary policy largely govern the way the Federal Reserve operates to this day.
He wrote several books in conjunction with his wife Rose, who is a powerful intellectual in her own right. Milton Friedman died in November of 2006. The Following is a bibliography of many of his works. It is by no means a complete list. However, many are out of publication or of perhaps too technical a nature to be included here. The books listed here are informative and accessible. Some are steeped in the time that they were written, but all have tenets that are universal and applicable to economies and markets today.
